The first step in the process of creating a workflow that can be used in SharePoint is to model that workflow in VS. Create a new VB SharePoint Sequential Workflow Library project called ShareDocumentExample. This example will show how to create a workflow, and then use that workflow within SharePoint to request approvals for a document and also gather some comments (via InfoPath). Within the Toolbox, find the CreateTask activity. This activity creates a task for a user within SharePoint. After a task is created, you need to wait for that task to change. For this, first add a While activity to wait until a condition is satisfied, then add an OnTaskChanged activity within the While activity. Finally, the task will be completed, so add a TaskCompletion activity last. Once all those activities are added to the workflow, the workflow will look like Figure 11-5. If you click any of the red exclamation points in the upper-right corner of the activities, you ll see an error related to the CorrelationToken property. The CorrelationToken property allows you to tie various activities together so the action they perform is performed on the same item. Because you want all the actions within the workflow to be performed on the same task or item, the CorrelationTask property for each activity needs to be the same. Click the createTask1 activity and add TaskToken to the CorrelationToken property. After you add the CorrelationToken, there s a plus sign next to the property. Click it and the OwnerActivityName property appears. Choose Workflow1, as shown in Figure 11-6.

It s a rare thing to be able to design a database specifically for an application. More often than not, the database already exists, and developers must deal with its existing design. That is, you can choose to have some data loaded lazily, while other complex object graphs are loaded with a single SQL join to avoid serious performance problems. This sounds a lot like a sales pitch. So while we re in the mood, why don t we go into some reasons why you want to use iBATIS We ll do exactly that in section 2.5. To be fair, a little later in section 2.5 we ll discuss some times when you may not want to use iBATIS.
