The final aspect to round off your basic understanding of the LTS file structure is the actual DBML and the mapping that is done with LTS. Looking first at the AdventureWorks.dbml file in Listing 3-4, you can see that you have an XML file that has your connection string, provider information, and metadata mapping to the Department table. The DBML file represents the database schema and is used by the designer to show the mapping information in the GUI. As you can see in Listing 3-4, the DBML file is very intuitive. Along with having a Database and Connection node, you also have a Table node that contains the mappings from the type Department to the table HumanResources.Department. The child nodes of Table, the Column nodes, contain the Type attribute (which is the .NET type) along with the DbType (which is the database type). In addition, the Column nodes contain other attributes such as CanBeNull to help with the mappings.

Tip If you want your project to have a nice long name, but not an identical directory structure, you can rename the project.
