One important feature of RadComboBox is its ability to load items on demand. On-demand control items are not available until the user types hints of what items are needed or expands the control to see what items are available. This feature works great for scenarios where the items to be added to the control are too numerous to load when the control is created and loading them on demand will filter the items to improve performance. There used to be basically two methods for loading items on demand in a special event handler during a server-side postback and with a call to a web service but with the launch of WCF, Telerik added the ability to load items on demand from a WCF service. There is no functionality that distinguishes between ASMX and WCF; basically, they both work the same way. You need to choose a method for building the load-on-demand mechanism and enable the loadon-demand feature in the RadComboBox by setting the property EnableLoadOnDemand to True.
